PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY
2022-2023DESCRIPTION OF HOW GREENSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL & BELFIELD
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WILL IMPLEMENT
REQUIRED PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY COMPONENTS- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will take the following actions to involve parents in the joint development of its parental involvement policy:
- Parents will be invited to actively participate in the joint development of the parental involvement policy. Parents will be contacted by letter and/or by phone after Parent-School-Student Compacts are returned to ensure parent notification and to encourage parent participation in the policy’s development.
- An annual parent involvement policy orientation meeting will be held at Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School and a Parent Advisory Committee will be formed.
- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will take the following action to involve parents in the process of school review and improvement:
- An annual parent involvement policy review and improvement meeting will be held at Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School under the leadership of the Parent Advisory Committee.
- Parents will be given opportunities for input on improvements to the Title I program during each PTO Meeting.
- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will provide the following necessary coordination, technical assistance, and other support in planning and implementing effective parental involvement activities to improve student academic achievement and school performance:
- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will provide leadership with coordination, technical assistance, and other support in planning and implementing effective parental involvement activities to ensure improvement in student academic achievement and school performance.
- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will use assessment data to ensure effective coordination of remediation and tutorial programs to improve student academic achievement and school performance.
- Greensville Elementary School’s & Belfield Elementary School’s staff will coordinate the planning and implementation of effective services, such as in-school and after-school tutorial programs, to improve student academic achievement and school performance. Staff will inform parents when children are identified to receive in-school and/or after-school tutorial programs.
- Greensville Elementary School will coordinate and integrate parental involvement strategies in Title I, Part A with parental involvement strategies under the following other programs: Head Start, Virginia’s Preschool Initiative, and State and Federal operated Pre-K programs designed to meet children’s regular and special education needs, and any other state or federally funded education program:
- The housing of Head Start at Greensville Elementary School.
- A Greensville Elementary School administrator will serve on the Head Start Policy Council to assist in the coordination and integration of parental involvement strategies for both programs, Title I, Part 1, and Head Start.
- Greensville Elementary School will coordinate and integrate parental involvement strategies in Title I, Part A with parental involvement strategies with other programs such as Head Start, Virginia’s Pre-School Initiative, and State and Federal-operated Pre-K programs.
- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will take the following actions to conduct, with the involvement of parents, an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of this parental involvement policy in improving the quality of its Title A, Part A School. The evaluation will include identifying barriers to greater participation by parents in parental involvement activities (with particular attention to economically disadvantaged parents who are disabled, have limited English proficiency, have limited literacy, or are of any racial or ethnic minority background). Greensville Elementary School will use the findings of the evaluations of its parental involvement policy and activities to design strategies for more effective parental involvement, and to revise, if necessary (and with the involvement of parents), its parental involvement policy:
- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will conduct an annual meeting to evaluate the content and effectiveness of the parental involvement policy in improving the quality of its Title I, Part A School.
- Parent letters will be sent home, and parent contact by Parent Advisory Committee members or the Parent and Family Engagement Liaison will encourage parent participation in the annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the parental involvement policy.
- Parent responses will be key to the annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School parental involvement policy.
- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will build the school’s and parent's capacity for strong parental involvement to ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the school, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement through the following activities described below:
- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will, with the assistance of school division personnel, assist parents of children served by the school, as appropriate, in understanding topics such as the following, by undertaking the actions described in this paragraph –

- The State’s academic content standards,
- The state’s student academic achievement standards,
- The state and local academic assessments, including alternate
assessments, - The requirements of Part A,
- How to monitor their child’s progress, and
- How to work with educators:

- Greensville Elementary & Belfield Elementary School will provide resources for parents to learn the school’s, division’s, and state’s academic content standards, achievement, and assessment requirements.
- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will provide resources for parents regarding ways to help their children prepare for testing and how to develop good study habits.
- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will, with the assistance of school division personnel, provide materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve their children’s academic achievement, such as literacy training and using technology, as appropriate, to foster parental involvement by:
- Assisting non-English speaking parents in identifying available community-based resources to help them learn the English language.
- Providing open-house and Title I Parent Events activities for parents to ensure a parent-friendly school environment.
- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will, with the assistance of school division personnel and parents, educate its teachers, pupil service personnel, principals, and other staff in how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with parents as equal partners, in the value and unity of contributions of parents, and in how to implement and coordinate parent programs and build ties between parents and the school, by:
- Communicating, to the extent practicable, in a language parents understand.
- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will, to the extent feasible and appropriate, coordinate and integrate parental involvement programs and activities with Head Start, Reading First, Virginia’s Pre-School Initiative, State and Federal operated Pre-K programs, Speech Pre-K program, the Pre-K Early Childhood Program, and other programs, and conduct other activities that encourage and support parents in more fully participating in the education of their children by:
- Providing transition activities for students and parents in the school and assisting students and parents in transitioning from Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School to other schools within the division.
- Providing an open-house for all students and parents before the first day of each school year.
- Greensville Elementary School & Belfield Elementary School will take the following actions to ensure that information related to the school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities is sent to the parents of participating children in an understandable and uniform format, including alternative formats upon request. To the extent practicable, in a language, the parents can understand:
- Parent and student information will be translated, to the extent practicable, into a language understandable by parents.
